This course will be a requirement for one proposed major (Sports Performance Analytics) housed in the College of Agricultural and Natural Resources’ Department of Applied Economics & Statistics, and one proposed minor (Sport Business Analytics) housed in the Sport Management program within the Lerner College of Business and Economics. Therefore, the course will be related to the following goals from each program.
Sport Performance Relatable Program Goals
1) Demonstrate understanding of mathematical and analytical techniques used in sporting applications, particularly as they relate to athlete and team generated data.
2) Apply statistical and economic models, statistical analyses, and advanced statistical inference to sports performance and competition applications.
3) Analyze and interpret athlete data from wearable and other biometric technologies to guide the improvement of athlete performance
4) Exercise well-developed critical thinking and oral and written communication skills in order to provide effective analysis of real-world questions
5) Demonstrate responsible and ethical professional conduct, especially as related to data privacy and security, that respects diverse perspectives and promotes inclusivity.
Sport Management Relatable Program Goals
1) Effectively communicate with peers and professionals orally and in writing.
2) Demonstrate technology proficiency by using the computer to analyze numerical information, to organize data, to aid in decision-making, to facilitate research, and to communicate effectively.
3) Critically analyze real world issues, make decisions, and form sound and well-based judgments.
4) Compare and contrast the global and cultural sport industry segments to determine their personal competency area that is most appropriate as a career orientation.
